WHY PEGSIL

Dust is dangerous

The respiratory system is constantly at risk from exposure to various types of dust. Many lung diseases caused by inhaling harmful workplace dust are irreversible, making prevention the most effective way to protect workers. The best safeguard is eliminating dust from the air entirely. In this case, the principle of "prevention is better than cure" holds especially true.

METALLIFEROUS DUST

The mining of tin, iron ore, copper, gold, nickel, silver, and zinc generates metalliferous dust, both underground and on the surface. This dust is produced during extraction, drilling, hauling, crushing, stockpiling, and processing of minerals.

Metalliferous ores such as silver, uranium, and nickel contain toxic dust that can severely impact the respiratory system. Harmful compounds can also be absorbed into the bloodstream through the alveolar walls, posing a serious risk to multiple organs and body tissues. This exposure can lead to severe lung inflammation and long-term health complications.

ASBESTOS DUST 

Asbestos dust poses significant health risks. It originates from asbestos, a naturally occurring mineral composed of flexible, heat-resistant fibers. When inhaled, these microscopic fibers can become lodged in the lungs, leading to severe diseases such as asbestosis and cancer.

No level of asbestos exposure in the workplace is considered safe, making strict control measures essential to protect workers' health.

COAL DUST

Coal mining generates coal dust, whether underground or at the surface. This dust is present in the air wherever coal is mined, stored, or loaded for transport.

Inhalation of coal dust can lead to coal workers’ pneumoconiosis, commonly known as black lung disease, which impairs lung function. Although safety standards aim to limit exposure, coal dust often contains silica, further increasing health risks.

SILICA  DUST

Crystalline silica dust is generated in industries such as mining, tunnelling, and quarrying through activities like blasting, sieving, drilling, crushing, and transporting silica-containing rocks.

Inhalation of silica dust can cause silicosis, a serious lung disease that leads to breathing difficulties. Even brief exposure to high levels of silica dust can result in acute silicosis, while long-term exposure increases the risk of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), tuberculosis, kidney disease, and autoimmune disorders.

HOW DOES PEGSIL WORK

PEGSIL is a safety focused polymer additive technology that is safe, biocompatible, eco-friendly, and self-cleaning. It not only enhances dust suppression but also improves the safety and cleanliness of mining environments.

PEGSIL transforms water into an effective dust control solution by reducing its surface tension, which enhances the process of agglomeration. When PEGSIL is dosed and diluted into water, the resulting mixture is pumped and atomized through spray nozzles. The reduction in surface tension creates smaller water droplets, which experience less air turbulence. This results in a higher rate of dust particles coming into contact with the water + PEGSIL mixture, facilitating their bonding, consolidation, and agglomeration. The agglomerated dust particles form a larger combined mass, causing them to fall from the air.
